This isn't really my thing, but it's definitely interesting. I'm guessing the goal is to create an incredibly unsettling listening experience. A lot of bands try and sound "evil" and fall short. These guys certainly pull it off (if that's your thing). To assume they're incapable of writing riffs because they chose a different songwriting approach is really stupid. Isn't it pretentious to call things you don't understand pretentious?

One can call a banana sticked to the wall, splash of a paint on a canvas made with dick or a canned shit, an art. There will be people who will say that you don't understand that too.
I'd rather think that those guys 'chose that different songwriting approach' cause they can't write a decent song, not the other way. I wouldn' call it songwriting when it comes to this band, and similar to them. You can write unsettling creepy songs, which are 'songs', and not a fucking cacophonic mess.
