Alongside FM, Shy, and Virginia Wolf, OUTSIDE EDGE stood as one of the defining names of the British Melodic Rock / AOR scene throughout the ’80s. AOR Heaven Records honored their legacy with a superb remastered edition of their second album, 1986’s “Running Hot”, released as part of the AOR Heaven Classix series. The band’s roots trace back to the Farmer brothers — Tom and David — and guitarist Eddie Golga, who had previously played in Gift and the underrated Blackfoot Sue. Wanting to embrace a more melodic direction, they formed OUTSIDE EDGE and relocated to France in the early ’80s. It was the French branch of WEA that first recognized their potential, releasing the band’s self‑titled debut in 1984.
Despite being largely overlooked at the time, OUTSIDE EDGE’s fortunes changed when they landed the support slot on Bryan Adams’ UK tour the following year. The exposure led to a deal with 10 Records (a Virgin subsidiary), resulting in two albums that would later become cult favorites among AOR fans.
For Running Hot, the label invested heavily and brought in renowned producer Terry Manning, known for his work with Led Zeppelin and ZZ Top. Under his guidance, the band crafted a polished, hook‑laden slice of British mid‑’80s Melodic Rock — very much in the vein of Airrace, Virginia Wolf, and Shy, with soaring melodies, big choruses, and lush keyboard arrangements.
