I've been waiting for this one.

Opeth is probably THE BEST metal band right here. Even though I love Insomnium and some other bands little bit more, I have to admit, that Opeths musicianship is superior, and Mike is an asshole, but brilliant one. I don't know why did he choose to change style to what it used to be on couple previous albums, but never mind, with such a return I can forget about previous stuff (they were pretty good, but some of it was boring and not my cup of tea). After two listens I can tell that this is much better, not just because growls returned. These songs here are much more interesting and in every way better, it kept me interested for all the time, there's no weak moment on this album. Musically it is in deed a mix of Watershed and newer stuff without heavier death metal elements, except vocals, with it's own character. Vocals are diverse, and solos are some of the best I heard in a long time. It takes multiple listens to grasp this album, and it must be listened as a whole I guess. Those are my first impressions.
