First released in 1997 on the legendary Now & Then Records, Hugo Valenti’s debut album quickly became an AOR classic. Long out of print, it’s now back thanks to Escape Music, who are reissuing it as Hugo (2025 Remastered).
Hugo’s career spans fronting Valentine and Open Skyz, touring with Mr. Big, Extreme, and Winger, and building a loyal following across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. His solo debut, co-produced by Gary Hughes (Ten), is often described as the album Journey should have released after Trial by Fire. Hugo’s voice — uncannily close to Steve Perry’s — delivers soaring melodies and heartfelt performances, from the layered harmonies of Oh-Oh’s to the stunning high note on Standing Alone.
Far from being an imitator, Hugo has always sung this way, carving his own path while embracing the spirit of classic AOR. The remaster finally brings pristine sound to an album that blends elegance, passion, and timeless melodic rock.
